NOAA Increases The Chance For Below Normal Hurricane Season

As we sail towards the peak of the Atlantic Hurricane Season, the forecasters at NOAA have decreased both the chances of a bad season and the total number of expected storms. In May, there was only a 25% chance of a below normal season. As of August 9, that chance has increased to 60%. The chances of an above normal season has dropped to only 10%.

NOAA Releases Official 2015 Hurricane Forecast

NOAA has just released their hurricane forecast for the 2015 Hurricane Season. They are predicting 6-11 named storms with 3-6 becoming hurricanes. They are predicting 0-2 major hurricanes of category 3 or higher. This calls for a below-normal season.

Last seasons predictions were 8-13 storms with 3-6 being hurricanes. 1-2 major hurricanes of category 3 or higher.

As you can see the predictions for this year are lower as a normal to below normal season is predicted due to the presence of El Nino.

NOAA Reports A Normal to Below Normal Hurricane Season 2014

As we prepare for the Memorial Day Weekend another hurricane season is just on the horizon. The 2014 hurricane season is just about ready to start and already we are seeing action in the Pacific. The fact that all the major agencies, including NOAA, are projecting a lower then normal season should not make you feel all that comfortable.
