Invest 98 and 97 Gaining Steam

Invest 98 in located about 475 miles east of the Windward Islands. Showers and Thunderstorms have become a bit more organized tonight. Buoy reports well north of the circulation are reporting tropical storm force winds at this time. Upper level winds are only marginal for development however slow development is possible over the next day or two. This system has a 40% chance of development as the conditions will start to become more favorable. Strong gusty winds and heavy rain will be possible in the Windward islands.

Invest 98 Gaining Strength

Invest 98 is slowly gaining steam. Residents in the Windward Islands should be monitoring this system carefully. Global models indicate that the system should develop into at least a tropical storm. After passing through the islands most of the models show it turning more to the north. Depending on where this turn takes place will determine who might be affected down the road.

Most of the models indicate a moderately strong tropical storm forming in the next 48 to 72 hours. The areas affected could be the Windward Islands, Puerto Rico and possibly Hispaniola if the system takes its time turning north.

Tropics Remain Quiet

Hi everybody. The tropics remain quiet today with only a small invest in the far northeast Atlantic. This area has only a 20% chance of development and even if it does, The system would move North East into the open Atlantic. If you live in Florida you probably noticed the hazy look to the sky. This is being caused by SAL (Saharan Air Layer) or dust being carried in the upper parts of the atmosphere from Africa. The dust only has minimal air quality issues as it is located well up in the atmosphere.Enjoy the quiet moments and remember to always be hurricane ready as storms can pop up quite quickly and they can be very unpredictable.
