Potential Snow For New England | March 25, 2014

Good morning everybody. The storm that is expected to impact the North East will offer a glancing blow to most locations from New Jersey through New England. In the latest report, 2 to 4 inches of snow are expected except the far eastern parts of the Cape where blizzard conditions are still possible.

On the current forecast track, areas such as Boston will only see nuisance snow and not an all out blizzard.

There is still low confidence in the forecast but as of now there will be a sharp cutoff in significant snowfall in the Boston to Providence corridor. If you live in the Cape or the islands, blizzard conditions with damaging winds will be possible.

Please remember that there still remains quite a model spread with this system. Forecasters are using the fairly consistent ECMWF model for forecasting the track of the system. Although models disagree on the track, they all agree that explosive strengthening will take place as the system feeds from Gulf moisture. As of now, 2 to 4 inches is forecast for the Boston area. Remember that any shift to the west could have a significant change in the area of most impact. The Cape region could see hurricane force winds with this system.

The snow that falls will be a dry snow that will have the capacity to be blown around quite easily. The bulk of the event will be early Wed morning.

Watches and warnings will not be modified until further study of the models has been done. Stay tuned for any significant changes should they occur.
