Memorial Day also means we are on the threshold of another hurricane season. El Nino is already starting to ramp up and this little phenomenon could be our saving grace during the 2014 season. Although a slow hurricane season is forecast this may or may not actually be the case. Hurricane Andrew was born in an El Nino season. Hurricanes know no boundaries and they do not discriminate. Please be sure to have your disaster plan in place just like any other year. Remember, it only takes one storm to make it a bad year.

Historically, rainy season usually starts by at least the third week in May and so far, things have been bone dry along the Treasure Coast. This is all due to the deep layer ridging that is present over our region. The High pressure is helping to keep our region dry and breezy.

For tonight, low temperatures will dip down to the low 60’s in some locations. Dry and stable air will continue.

On Thursday, surface ridging will continue to settle further southward. This will result in a westerly flow with an East Coast sea breeze developing in the afternoon. Conditions will remain dry with warmer temperatures then the past couple of days. Temps could get into the low 90’s inland with upper 80’s along the coast.

For Friday, the main feature will be hot temperatures. We could see some records set. We could see temperatures reach the mid 90’s with some lower temperatures extending from I 95 to the coast. Regardless, all locations will be hot. The precipitation chances will remain low.

East Central Florida Forecast

Saturday will feature low precipitation chances as an anti-cyclone is reinforced by a second anti-cyclone near the Rockies. This will allow a weak frontal trough to move down the east coast and enter Florida on Sunday. This could give us the best chance of a shower that we have seen all week. The chances are low but the chance is there. The switch to an onshore flow will keep temperatures more near seasonal highs on Sunday and Monday.

High Pressure Dominates

Have a safe and happy Memorial Day!
