Wet, Heavy Snow For Northeast

A wet and heavy snow event is slated for the Northeast this weekend. A significant coastal storm will be the fuel that creates the snow event this Saturday. The potential for wet, heavy snow is  possible especially north of the Mass Pike. The forecast is tricky because the temperatures will be on the borderline of freezing. Most of the snow will be inland and away from the immediate coast.

Precipitation will overspread the region from West to East on Saturday. The worst part of the storm will be Saturday night into Sunday afternoon. The good news is that this storm will not hit during peak commuter traffic time as with the previous systems.

Models are showing a low pressure area developing off the Mid Atlantic coast on Saturday. As the event draws closer, the areas of heaviest snow will be easier to pinpoint but the entire region is under a Winter Storm Watch.

Most of the models are showing a mainly snow event for much of the region, especially in the vicinity of the Mass Pike. The potential for 6 inches plus of snow exists for the region.

At present, Boston appears to be more of a rain event but any shift in the models could change that forecast. The wet snow can accumulate on wires and trees and cause power outages and downed trees. Stay tuned for  updates  as this forecast gets fine tuned.
