Potential Thanksgiving Winter Storm

The chances of a potential Thanksgiving winter storm for the East Coast is getting a bit stronger as time goes on. The GFS model is showing an area of low pressure developing in the Gulf of Mexico in about 72 hours or so. The low could bring bad weather to Louisiana and Mississippi. As the low intensifies, Georgia and the Carolinas could be next on the list with flooding rains possible.

As the low reaches the North Carolina coast around Wednesday, it could “bomb” out and quickly form into a potent nor’easter with heavy rain, wind and snow for the northeast. In fact, the heaviest part of the precipitation could be on Thanksgiving Day, especially for New England.

The storm will usher in bitter cold for the Black Friday shoppers. I would not want to be camping out on a long line to be the first person to get the deals. It will be cold. I think a warm room with Amazon sounds a lot better!

There are other models and they all do not show the same aggressiveness of the GFS. They all still indicate a bad weather situation regardless. It is impossible to say exactly which of the scenarios will be the actual result but we just wanted you to know and be ready just in case the worst case happens. Stay safe and be prepared this Winter storm season.
