Hi everybody. There might be some good news for the folks along the east coast US. Todays model guidance is backing off on the idea of a major Winter Storm. Snow will still be there but the system is not expected to gain steam until it is already off-shore. This will result in the storm forming too far offshore to affect New England. This is definitely a matter of timing and we are still watching to see what happens.
The Wintry mix could spread as far south as the Carolinas.
If you look at the below weather map, you can see that the heaviest of the precipitation will be offshore.
The storm track will not affect the bitter cold that the region has been experiencing.
Even if the storm does not strengthen, some snowfall is likely, especially closer to the coast. Temperatures will remain below normal for the New England area until Tuesday when things will begin to warm up and may actually do a reverse loop and become above normal.
Remember, even though the forecast is backing off on the severity of the system, there is still not a huge amount of confidence of what the final result will be so stay tuned to your local stations in case there are any changes to the track or intensity.
