About Joe…

Hi everybody. I would just like to write a short bio of myself. I was born on April 23, 1953 at St Peter’s Hospital in New Brunswick N.J. I was raised in a small borough about 30 miles from New York City called Sayreville. The town was named after Mr. Sayre who also started the Sayre & Fisher Brick Company. During its day, it was one of the largest suppliers of bricks in the area. The Borough of Sayreville is a 17.1 square mile community of about 40,000 people. I resided there for 22 years before moving to Florida. Sayreville was a very small comfortable town where almost everybody knew everybody else. I can still remember the coal truck delivering coal to the bin we had in the basement. Who could forget the fish man, the Fuller Brush man or how about the iceman. It seemed we never had to leave the house. There was a delivery service for everything. Oh, I almost forgot the milkman.

I attended high school at Sayreville War Memorial where I graduated in 1971. I also attended Seton Hall University in South Orange N.J.  from 1972-1975.

In 1977 I decided it was time to get away from the cold and snow so I made the move to Florida. Although I sometimes miss the history and heritage of the town I was born in, I still completely enjoy the beautiful weather and scenery that Florida has to offer.

I remained single for the most part of my life until I met Carol in 1998. We were married on May 13, 2000 at the Jensen Beach Community Church and we had our reception at The Port St. Lucie Yacht Club. The wedding was done Joe’s Disco style and was a very beautiful occasion.

As a kid, I have always had a curiosity about the weather. I always use to wonder why it was cold or hot or why it could not be warm in the winter. I always followed the temperatures and read books about weather terminology and cloud formations etc. My dream of sharing my interest was satisfied about 7 months ago in June of 2002. That was when the Hometown News was born. My wife Carol had just started with The Hometown News and she asked me one day why don’t I write a weather column for the paper. I thought about it and it seemed like a really exciting venture. Carol set up an appointment with Tammi Raits, who is the managing editor of the paper. We talked and tossed some ideas around and finally came up with an interesting format. Since I had absolutely no prior writing experience, Tammi was my total inspiration on how to write. To this day I really have to thank her for that as I am now doing something I always dreamed about.
