Good morning Treasure Coast. WE have a lot going on so let’s get to it. Of course our main concern is what is happening in the tropics. A hurricane hunter is going out today to investigate the system that I expect will soon be Colin. The model trends have been more towards North Florida but these models will likely change when the system develops. Regardless of the track, the system will be large and will affect a large area with rain and potential severe weather.
First, we have to start out with today. Scattered to numerous storms are possible today as local moisture is on the increase. The rain chances today are 60% and I have issued an umbrella alert today. Today will start out mostly sunny so sufficient destabilization will occur so storms will likely start about mid day.
The developing area of low pressure will likely emerge into the Gulf Of Mexico just north of the Yucatan tonight. The system will likely be a tropical depression or a tropical storm be early Monday or possibly sooner. We could start to see outer rain bands as early as late tonight. Do NOT let the track throw you off as this will be a broad system and conditions will deteriorate rapidly as the system begins to approach the region. Most of the heavy weather will come in ahead and south of where the system tracks. Confidence is HIGH that a heavy rain event is is store for East Central Florida. Flood watches will likely be issued on Monday.
In addition to the heavy rain, there is a marginal risk tor tornadoes. Although gusty winds will be possible in squalls, this should not be a huge wind event for the Treasure Coast. On the West Coast, Tropical Storm conditions will be possible.
All residents are urged to carefully watch the progress of this system and be aware of any tropical or non-tropical watches or warnings that might be issued later today or tonight.
Everybody is urged to make preparations for flooding rains, gusty winds and tornadoes. Remember, turn around, don’t drown.
