Blizzard warnings have been issued for eastern and SE Massachusetts along with the New York City area. Winter Storm Warnings are in place elsewhere.
Increasing clouds tonight will lead to light snow early tomorrow. The air column will remain cold enough to support snow throughout the region.
Snow will become heavy by the evening commute and travel will become hazardous.
Travel later in the night may become impossible. If you need to travel, be at your destination before Friday night as you will not be able to get anywhere after that.
This system is expected to be a storm of historic proportions and will be one in the history books. Two to Three feet of snow will be possible throughout the region.
Model solutions all agree well on both the location of the low and the intensity. It is not a matter of if anymore. This system is coming. Preparations should be made for the potential of not being able to travel and also because of power outages which could lead to an extended period without heat.
The surface low will “BOMB” on Friday night and really hit with a vengeance. Compare this to a hurricane in Rapid Intensification Mode.
Moderate to heavy snow will continue till Mid Day Saturday where it will finally begin to taper off.
Snowfall amounts will vary by location but 18 to 24 inches plus are probably going to be the rule.
Stay informed with local TV and radio to get information about road conditions, closings and power outages in your area. Do not travel if you do not need to. You do not want to be stranded in a snow drift.
The I 95 corridor will probably have the highest accumulations of snow as is historically usually the case. This area will be closest to storms center.
